Ryan won Husband of the Year when he gave me a gift card to Stitch Fix. I have wanted to try it for a super long time and have always talked myself out of it. But he then got me a gift card so there was no reason not to try it!
For those of you who haven't heard, Stitch Fix is an awesome service that allows you to try on clothing and accessories in the comfort of your own home and with your own pieces. This is awesome for a multitude of reasons.
1. If you're a mom like me, it's rare that you will find the time to shop at your leisure, much less try on clothes. Most often you have a little one tagging along, bored out of their mind, who would much rather be in the toy aisle than in a fitting room with you.
2. Being able to mix and match the new with the old will help you figure out whether the piece you received would wear well with what you already have in your wardrobe.
3. The pieces are hand selected by Stitch Fix stylists for you. They take in consideration your taste and style, your body build, and social media such as Pinterest to create a unique combination of clothes and accessories, all packaged in a perfect little box.
4. It is so much fun to rip into the box and see what pretty things Stitch Fix had sent you. Hopefully you are lucky and the box is full of pretty things.
I think I got a pretty decent box considering that this is my first Fix ever. I explained to them that I work in healthcare management, that I wear a little too much black and that I pretty much live in blazers. What I'm looking for is more color, fun prints, and something bold.
For my first fix, I requested specifically a colorful summer dress that I can wear to a wedding. We have so many weddings this year and I'm super excited. I love weddings. And I love dressing up! I have a dress picked out for next weekend's wedding already. It's a pale pink, very sweet and demure, but I wanted to see if Stitch Fix could find me something more summery and fun.
***Disclaimer***
I am not a professional photographer. I know nothing about lighting, don't know how to use Photoshop, the most I can do is crop my pictures. So if you're expecting carefully orchestrated pictures and natural lighting, you will be sorely disappointed.
Also, I am soooo not a model. So feel free to make fun of my awkward poses and uncomfortable smiles.
My stylist was Sara. She was inspired by the "pops of yellow" on my Pinterest board, wanted to give me two options for the upcoming wedding, gave me some work options, and a statement necklace to add "glam and sophistication."
First up, the pants and blouse.
Turquoise Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse
41Hawthorne
Size Small
$48.00
Oh gosh, that is such a gorgeous color. And to be honest, I don't have anything so blue and so bold in my closet. But the shirt was included as a work option but it was much too loose, a little sloppy, definitely not professional enough for my line of work. I considered keeping it as a casual weekend shirt but the sleeves were an awkward length and wasn't as fitted as I would have liked.
Verdict: Returned
Black Emer High Waisted Trouser
Margaret M
Size Small
$98.00
I balked at the price. I am a bargain hunter, especially when it comes to clothes. I browse clearance racks like no other. I rarely buy an article of clothing (for myself) at full price. One of my proudest moments was buying two designer blazers for under $5 each, saving well over $200. I never spend nearly $100 on one article of clothing.
But these pants were magic. They fit like a glove. They were so slimming! And the material is light-weight, perfect for the crazy hot summer we've been having in Oregon. And I could always use more work pants.
So there goes my plan to shun black and embrace color. I freakin' kept the pants.
Verdict: Kept
Yellow Lex Textured Floral Knit Fit & Flare Dress
Brixon Ivy
Size Small
$74.00
I absolutely love the idea of this dress. It's yellow, has a sweet floral print, and a modest hemline that is perfect for a summer wedding. But the waistline hits at an awkward spot, it is a little too snug, and I feel as though the color washes me out. Honestly, the dress looks better on camera than it did in person, which never happens.
Verdict: Returned
Blue Caspar Maxi Dress
Collective Concepts
Size Small
$98.00
I was so excited to receive a maxi dress. I have two in my closet, one of which I feel like I wear all the time. And this one has such a fun print! But when I put it on the first thing my husband said was, "I think that's too big for you." I am kind of short and the dress pooled at my feet. So I put on heels. Too high, now I feel like a prairie woman.
I was ready to forgive the dress for its length and seriously considered keeping this one instead of the pants. Unfortunately, the front of the dress works similarly to a wrap, the fabric folds atop of each other and if I bend down or the fabric slides down my front, my entire chest is exposed. That's dangerous when you have a three year old.
Verdict: Returned (however reluctantly)
Turquoise Mayfair Stone and Gem Necklace
Towne & Reese
$38.00
I have never been interested in turquoise jewelry but I'm always willing to expand my horizons and try out new styles. I was tempted to keep this but it makes me think of cowboys and Texas and camp shirts, I probably wouldn't ever wear it.
Verdict: Returned
Since I had received the gift card, I decided that I would do (at least) five boxes. I am allowing myself to keep 1 item each fix, unless the stylist totally hits it out of the park and I end up loving every single piece. But we'll cross that bridge when it comes.
I'm not going to lie, Stitch Fix is a pricey service. Especially for a cheap mom like me! This will be a once in a while indulgence, not a monthly activity. But it's definitely a fun experience and so worth it for all you busy moms (and non-moms) out there.

Signing up will give me a $25 credit, which is nice. But if you sign up, I'd love to see your fix! It's almost just as fun for me to see what everyone else gets (and keeps). If I'm not going to spend the dough and buy all the clothes, I'll live vicariously through you while you do.
